In order to provide the students an opportunity to learn the practical way, apart from the theoretical exposure, the Indian Institution of Production Engineers decided to form student chapters in the Colleges and encourage the students to actively participate in the various pragrammes of IIPE. This would help the students to meet senior and experienced engineers, who could guide them to build a career when they come out of college.

The Student Sections have their own Committees and are encouraged to have regular programmes for their members. The following activities are considered useful to the Student Sections -

1.       Get the assistance of IIPE for providing senior executives in industry to lecture on topics of current interest.

2.       Promote Industry Institution Interaction.

3.       Spread awareness of Industrys specific needs.

4.       Create platform to improve the presentation skills of the students.

5.       Industrial visits to practically expose themselves to the processes and methods adopted in the industry.

6.       Inter-institute meets where students can exchange notes and also present papers on topics of engineering development.

7.       Inter-collegiate seminars and presentation skills with reward for best paper/ best student in the discipline.

8.       Facilitate Industrial exposure opportunity to students during vacations and also facilitate industrial training after graduation.

9.       Provide information through the IIPE Newsletter details of available opportunities in industry.

10.    Facilitate opportunities for campus interviews and provide exposure to industrial needs.

Student Enrollment

The criteria for enrolment to Student Sections are that the College or Institute first enrolls itself as an Organizational Member. The Head of the Mechanical / Production Engineering Dept would coordinate the Student Section activity by enrolling himself and others as members and forming a committee with himself as the chairman of the section.

IIPE will provide guidance in forming the Section and conducting the activities. IIPE will also assist, if necessary, monetarily by providing fifty percent of the members contribution in the first year only for organising Inaugural function / special programme.

The student members with their active participation in the affairs of the IIPE, can be considered as the future support of the Institution.

Currently there are eight student sections from six engineering institutions, under the Chennai Centre, having a membership of about 250 students. The student members have actively participated in various symposiums, seminars and exhibitions.

During this Siver Jubilee year, another ten colleges from Karnataka and Tamilnadu, have come forward to set up IIPE Student sections.

For assistance please contact the Chairman - Academics Task Group, or any of the National Council members.
