Becoming a Member

IIPE celebrated their Silver Jubilee on November 22, 2002, at Bangalore. The venue was the Grand Ashok Hotel. Chief Guest was Shri.K.N.Shenoy, Former President of CII. There were two interesting technical papers presented - one by Shri. T.Oda, CEO of Fanuc India on "Factory Automation Today", and the second by Shri.V.A.Thomas, Director, ISRO-ISAC, on "Space Technology Today".
 
Dr.Balaveera Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Viswesvaraiah Technological University, was the guest of honour, and he presented the W.S.Venkateswaran Memorial Gold Medal for the varsity topper in Industrial & Production Engineering. This award for 2002 was given to Ms.Supreetha B.S, from NIE, Mysore.

W.S.Venkateswaran Memorial Gold Medal
 

W. S. VENKATESWARAN  was the moving force behind the Indian Institution of Production Engineers for ten long years, as its National Chairman, from 1991 till the time he passed away in April 2001. During the ten years of his chairmanship, he guided its growth by spreading its activities to various Centres like, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Mysore and Jalgaon.

In honour of his memory, during this Silver Jubilee year, IIPE, joined by his family members, is happy to install the Annual W.S.Venkateswaran Memorial Gold Medal to be awarded every year to the top ranking production engineering student of an Indian University.

WSV, as he was affectionately known, was a B.Tech from the first batch of I.I.T Kharagpur, and a post-graduate in Industrial Management from I.I.Sc, Bangalore. He worked for big corporations like Premier Automobiles, HMT, BFW, till he chose to run his own SSI unit. Later, he started Prima Associates, an Industrial Consultancy Consortium for productivity improvement and quality system certification.

He was active in a number of professional organisations like the Institution of Foundrymen, IEE (UK), Institution of Engineers etc. He was the President of Bangalore North Rotary, and the Governors Special Representative for starting the North West Rotary Club.

His love for service to the cause of education was paramount for him. He was very closely associated with Maharani Lakshmi Ammini College.
